Hospitals are in a unique position as most victims ultimately arrive at medical centers for treatment, creating the potential for a unique intervention assuming the hospital has adequate staff and resources in place to assist the patient.

Shortly after our first meeting, a select group of leaders from various hospitals and community-based violence reduction agencies agreed to form a coalition that would work towards creating more partnerships between health care and violence reduction agencies. HAVEN also hosts events, trainings, and conferences where experts and practitioners can share evidence based and promising practice models in addressing violence.

HAVEN is a collaborative of Southern California area Hospitals & Community-Based Organizations working together to prevent injury caused by violence and other associated consequences. Our members are dedicated to strengthening the relationships between community-based organizations and health care providers, who share the common goal of reducing violence in our communities.

In 2011, St. Francis Medical Center - Trauma Services, Southern California Crossroads and the Violence Prevention Coalition of Greater Los Angeles convened a meeting with local area Trauma Centers and Community-based Organizations to discuss how to work collaboratively in an effort to proactively address youth and gang violence.
