Brandon Completes Vocational Medical Billing Training at ACC

Brandon says “Growing up in the Projects… is no joke!” Brandon has moved between the cities of Lynwood, Compton, and Watts for many years.  He managed to Graduate High School from Cesar Chavez High.  Shortly after graduating, he found himself struggling to find a career path.

Brandon came in to our career development program and hit the ground running, completed our Mentoring, Restorative Justice and Parent’s on a Mission classes. He also worked on PSA’s through our Film Program as a community-wide effort to reduce violence. Upon completion of the classes, we enrolled Brandon in to the Medical Billing & Coding training through American Career Colleges. The course was paid in full through grants and training dollars awarded tp Crossroads. Brandon, struggled in the beginning due to family hardship but was able to rise above adversity with the support of the Crossroads team. We continued to “Bank on Banks” as he continuously worked and strived to complete school all while working a full time job.

Today, Brandon has graduated from the 'Medical Billing and Coding' course and is currently working on this externship. Aside from this awesome accomplishment, he has joined the Crossroads team as a volunteer and prevention specialist, speaking to youth about his experiences and spreading hope and inspiration in his community.

Crossroads Partners with St. Francis to Promote Healthy Lifestyles

In partnership with St. Francis Medical Center, and Lynwood Unified School District, Southern California Crossroads will implement a Healthy Lifestyle outreach awareness program in the fall of 2017.

Unfortunately, inner cities struggle with healthy living for various cultural and economic reasons, causing significant social determinants of health.

Diabetes, Heart Disease, High Blood pressure and  Chronic Stress are some of the issues we hope to address through our new initiative in the schools. St. Francis Medical staff has pledged to assist in the promotion and training of students in practical lessons on physical fitness and healthy eating, well also sharing self-care methods.
